Grassroots and the Primary

From the thousands of doors we’ve knocked on: most Republicans fly the flag. We spent Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Meigs, Gallia, Lawrence, and Scioto Counties going door-to-door and putting up our campaign signs. Signs are great. They work 24/7. If you would like a sign, or a dozen, please stop at my office at 4501 Market Street in Boardman and pick them up. Be sure to take them down after we win the primary and store them until the end of September, when you can put them up again for the general election.

April 6, 2010 Meritorious Service Medal.

“Lieutenant Colonel Donald Kenneth Allen distinguished himself in the performance of outstanding service to the United States as Public Health Officer, Individual Mobilization Augmentee, 88th Aerospace Medical Squadron, 88th Medical Group, 88th Air Base Wing, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. During this period, Colonel Allen demonstrated exceptional expertise and organizational skills as leader of the Pandemic Flu Tiger Team, driving the success of an 8-county exercise. Additionally, he personally developed press releases and trained 20 Airmen to produce educational communications needed to maximize community health efforts for over 30,000 individuals. Furthermore, during the 2009 Food Vulnerability Assessment, Colonel Allen identified critical shortfalls in food safety programs and provided corrective actions to safeguard over $39 million in assets. Finally, Colonel Allen served as medical intelligence officer ensuring over 4,000 deployers were thoroughly prepared for environmental challenges. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Allen culminate a distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.”

It is an honor to receive such an award, but the bigger honor has been the opportunity to serve this country.

Tax Day

Our weather cooperated Thursday and I spoke at two tea parties in the afternoon. First was Lisbon on the square at 3:30 p.m, and the turnout was great. Many also showed up for the Canfield Tea Party on the green. So many people are truly concerned about the future of our country and want to know what they can do. Vote! Don’t forget to vote in the primary on Tuesday, May 4, and then help us out this summer to prepare for the big “Get Out Of Our House” vote Nov. 2.

Door to Door Campaigning

I’ve been doing one of the most basic campaign activities – walking door-to-door to meet people and introduce myself. It’s fun to meet new people, and I’m always surprised at how many people already know me from my many years on the radio and TV in this area. “Pet Talk” on Saturdays was a fun hour-long radio show where people called in with questions about their pets. Many people listened in, even if they didn’t have pets themselves. Then there was the Wednesday 5 p.m. news on WKBN, where I had three minutes to talk about a pet issue. It was always live and unscripted, and I talked abut nutrition, diseases, fleas, worms, and just about everything regarding dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, and “pocket pets.” In the 26 years I’ve lived here, I’ve met or talked to thousands of people.

OV We The People Forum

Wednesday evening took us to Ohio University’s East campus in St. Clairsville, OH for the Ohio Valley We the People candidates forum. About eighty people were in attendance and the questions covered every aspect of America’s concerns. The session began with ten questions that we were allowed to only answer “yes” or “no” to, then members of the audience were allowed to ask questions of any or all of the candidates present. The event lasted two hours and was truly a successful evening for our campaign.

A little video about Charlie and Nancy.

Tuesday Rotary and Lawrence County Lincoln Day

Tuesday, March 23, was a very busy day for our campaign. We met first at noon in the new Salem Community Center to speak to the Salem Rotary Club about the book I wrote, “Tarawa – the Aftermath.” They had about 35 people attending and the World War II Pacific topic was timely. Jack Russell hosted us for the event.
Alex Mangie and I then set out for South Point, Ohio, about a 5-hour drive to our southern end of this district for the Lawrence County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner. The number of candidates present didn’t allow time for all to speak, but I was able to meet just about everyone present, and there were well over 200 people there. We provided a cat basket full of feline items and a signed copy of my book for their door prizes. It was a very productive day for our campaign.

My Response to the Healthcare Vote on Sunday

For Immediate Release: March 22, 2010

Congressman Charlie Wilson and House Democrats Defy the will of the people yet again.

Boardman, Ohio (March 22, 2010)—On Sunday, our House of Representatives passed a bill that is supposed to stem the cost of healthcare in the United States of America. When asked about the vote, Dr. Donald Allen, a Republican candidate for Ohio’s Sixth District, stated, “I am really disappointed in Congressman Charlie Wilson and his colleagues in the House of Representatives. Nothing shows more how out of touch our Congress has become than when Cong. Wilson, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats voted for this budget busting bill that does nothing to curb the cost of healthcare, punishes business and individuals for not offering or retaining healthcare insurance and adds 16,000 jobs to the IRS to ensure compliance with the bill. Since when does our government get to demand that we purchase anything? Since when do we allow our government to punish citizens for making a personal choice in regards to their own health and well being? I have talked to many people throughout Ohio and beyond and I must say that if Congressman Wilson and Speaker Pelosi were listening to the will of the people, they were not listening to the people of Ohio’s Sixth District and many other districts throughout the United States.”

Visibly disappointed, Dr. Donald Allen also added, “This country is in need of real common sense leadership. This bill should have never left committee as it is written. It is a shame when the only bipartisan support that could be garnered was against this bill. The time for sitting on the sidelines is over. We all need to get up and take a stand against this type of nonsense. We may not have been able to convince our current leaders that this type of spending and government overreach is wrong, but we can ensure that the new leaders that we elect in November have common sense and will repeal this bill once in office, if the courts do not deem it unconstitutional first.”

Spending Some Time Down South

Well folks it has been an amazing week and I have never been more excited for November 2nd.

Yesterday we spent the whole day visiting Republicans in beautiful Ironton Ohio. We started out around 6am and arrived in town at 11:30.it was good to see Mayor Blankenship. We talked about healthcare reform, the EPA and bringing jobs to Southern Ohio.

I also was able to catch up with Chairman Dutey outside of a pancake breakfast. We talked about the Lincoln Day Dinner next week and some of the plans we have for Lawrence County.

But I didn’t travel all the way to Ironton just to meet with party officials and mayors. I spent the later half of the day walking around, meeting with voters and listening to their concerns. Bob Allen, our county chair, took some of our signs. If you live in Lawrence county and would like a yard sign please email me and I will give Bob your information.

I will be back in Ironton on Tuesday afternoon for the Lincoln Day Dinner and I will be making another trip in the near future. As always if you would like to have a meet n’ greet just let me know!

Week of March 8th

This last week was topped off with the Boardman St. Patrick’s Day Parade, on Sunday afternoon. Although drizzle and rain came and went during the parade, we still had a great time and there were thousands of people in attendance.

Big thanks to John Blue for putting together our float, to the Teen-Age Republicans (TARS) for coming out to walk with us and hand out literature and candy, as well as everyone else who accompanied us in the parade. We gathered afterward at Republican Headquarters for pizza and to dry out.

Here are a few pictures from the events this past week.
